Presents... "Max Wedgie"

There's this guy... he owns a '64 Polara. Picked it up in California. It's in very nice, nearly-original shape. It was repainted years ago, but the steel is as solid as you'll find. It started with a 318 poly head, but the owner felt it was somewhat inadequate.

The Polara lost its 318 poly head. Power steering is gone.

The 505 was installed. It started as a '68 Chrysler 440. It used factory heads, an aluminum cross ram, two AFB's, max wedge exhaust, hydraulic roller cam and MSD ignition. It had 10:1 static compression and required race gas. Dyno numbers are 550 horsepower and 650 ft-lbs torque.

So, after running this combo for a while, the owner made some changes. He went with a different fuel pump. The 3.55 gears were swapped out and 3.91's were installed. The converter came out and a 4000 stall converter went in. A set of Caltracs replaced the SS leaf springs. The cast iron exhaust caused terrible heat build-up, so they were removed in favor of a pair of TTI headers. After all this, the car would run a 12.44 and required a steady diet of race gas.

So, the owner goes back to the engine shop and gets a set of ported Edelbrock Victor heads, the intake is ported and carbs relocated, the hydraulic roller cam was replaced with a solid roller cam. The Edelbrock carbs were pulled and a pair of Holleys took their place. Resulting dyno run: 720 horsepower ON PUMP GAS! Yeah, that'll get it done.

The car is got a roll cage, new gas tank with a sump, a killer fuel pump, and a Dana rear with 4.10's.
